Bread and Salt
2026, Communal bread oven (clay, sand, perlit, chamotte bricks, straw, pallet trolley, wooden battens, & bread sculptures)
& performance bread baking, in collaboration with Monika Raźny, at Trondheimsbiennalen, Nyhavna Trondheim, Norway

Bread and Salt is a sculptural and functional work. The wood-fired oven was built on site and draws on Eastern European welcoming rituals, in which bread and salt traditionally symbolize hospitality. During the biennial, Pitala, together with Monika Raźny, activated the oven through gatherings centered on baking and sharing food, transforming it into a place of warmth, aromas, memories, community, and conversation.
